When a person with COVID-19 breathe out or cough, they expel tiny droplets that contain the virus. These droplets can enter the mouth or nose of humans, causing an infection to occur.
The disease is most transferable when a person’s symptoms are at their peak. However, it is possible for a person without symptoms to spread the virus. A study suggests that 10% of infections are from people expressing no symptoms.
Droplets containing the virus can also land on nearby surfaces or objects. Other people can pick up the virus by touching these surfaces or objects and then touching their nose, eyes, or mouth without washing their hands.
About 80% of people recover from the disease without any hospital treatment. Around 1 out of every 5 people who get COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and have difficulty breathing. Older people, and those with having medical conditions like high blood pressure, heart and lung problems, diabetes, or cancer, are at higher risk of developing a serious illness. . People of all ages who have symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
